Ten Ravens

ten ravens sat upon the ground
on a grave right next to me.
they sat and sat and sat some more
beneath an old oak tree.

two ravens cawed and nodded east,
flapped their wings and flew away.
two more rose and nodded west
leaving me by the mid of day.

six ravens sat upon the ground
on a grave they could not see.
they sat and sat and sat some more
but would not speak to me.

two ravens looked north and cried,
stretched their feathers and took to flight.
two more rose and looked south
leaving me by the start of night.

two ravens sat upon the ground
on the grave right next to mine.
they nodded, called goodbye and left,
going back to the living kind.

no ravens sat upon the ground
of a grave they could not see.
no one, no one, no one was there
there was none to remember me.
